Dean L. Maley, 84, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday March 13, 2012, at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating.
Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, rural Garner, with military honors by the Garner V.F.W Post 5515. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then one hour before the services on Saturday at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Dean L. Maley memorial fund.
Dean was born on March 5, 1928 in Peetz, Colorado, the son of Lowell and Ester (Hand) Maley. He moved with his parents to Oregon and then to a farm N.E. of Garner. He graduated from the Ventura High School. Following high school he
farmed with his father and later enlisted in the United States Army, serving during WW II in the Black Forrest in Germany. He married Irene Schultz on July 24, 1951, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner. Following the
service he moved back to Clear Lake and worked for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Co., the City of Clear Lake and then Clear Lake Schools.Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and telling jokes. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Maley of Clear Lake; two children, Rick (Sheila) Maley of Clear Lake and Jackie (Ray) Larson of LaSalle, Colorado;
five grandchildren, Jason Maley, Cassie Maley, Ty Tuttle, Katie Larson and Kelly Larson; two brothers, Dale (Helene) Maley and Doug Maley, both of Garner and two sisters, Doris (Chuck) Earles of Britt and Donna (Tom) Corrick of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law; and a niece and nephew.
