Obituary

Mr. Dwight R. Hummel, son of Leroy and Maude Hummel, was born on December 15, 1903, at
Elliot, Iowa.

He attended rural schools in the Elliot area, and while attending the high school there, he
was a member of the southwest Iowa championship football team of 1919.

In the spring of 1920, he moved with his mother and brother to a farm near Klemme. In 1928,
he began tank wagon service and distributed petroleum products to the people of the Klemme
territory until the fall of 1954.

He was united in marriage to Gertrude Carpenter by Rev. Harry Herlein on November 11, 1943,
and the couple established their home in Klemme.

He was baptized and received into membership of the Klemme Methodist Church by Rev. Hershel
E. Harvey. He attended church services with regularity and served as Sunday School teacher,
chairman of the organ committee, and member of the church board.

In October, 1954, Dwight purchased the Westside Automatic Laundries at Waterloo, and he and
his family, have lived there since that time.

On January 19, 1956, he underwent surgery at Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo, and although he
received careful medical attention, it was to no avail and he was called to his eternal
reward on February 13, 1956, having reached the age of 53 years, 1 month, and 29 days.

He was a devoted husband and loving father and leaves to mourn his passing, his wife
Gertrude; three daughters, Joyce, Janice (Mrs. Robin White) of Cedar Falls, and Jo Ann
(Mrs. Harry Peters) of Kanawha; a brother, Hugh of Klemme; three grandchildren, Jay Allan
White, Roger Alan Peters, and Russell John Peters; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older sister who died at birth.
