Obituary

Bertha Josten nee Priebe, the youngest child in a family of nine children, was born on the
10th of May, 1876 at Redlien, Pommern, Germany. She was Baptized in the Lutheran Church at
Kurlein where her parents were members. She came to America with her parents at the age of
five years. After a six months stay at Milwaukee, Wisc., where father Priebe worked as a
tailor, the family moved to Hancock County in Iowa, and located on a farm now owned by John
Lemke. After four years they moved to the farm where Werner Priebe lives now. She was
confirmed in the Ell Town Church by the Rev. Hy Treick May 17th, 1891.

On the 24th of February 1904 she was united in marriage to Henry Josten. Rev. Albert
Muehlmeier performed the ceremony. They located on a farm east of Klemme where their oldest
son Ewald is now living. After nine years they moved to the second farm where their other
son, August now lives. In the year 1935 they retired and moved to Klemme. Mrs. Josten was
a faithful member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church where she and her family were regular in attendance. She died Tuesday evening, November 16th, 1948 at 9:30 o'clock at the
age of 72 years, 6 months land 6 days.

Five sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Surviving her and mourning her death
are her husband, Henry Josten.; two sons, Ewald and August of Klemme; two brothers, Julius
and Herman Priebe of Klemme; and six grandchildren.
