Funeral services were held for Daniel E. Lemme, age 90, at the Grant Lutheran Church in Woden on September 21. He died September 18, 1987 at the Forest City, Iowa hospital. Officiating clergyman were the Rev. C. Arnold Payne and the Rev. Keith DeLap. Interment was in Grant Township Cemetery, Woden, Iowa. Casket bearers were nephews Donald DeLap, the Rev. Keith DeLap, Bruce Hanna, Charles Lemme, Paul Lemme, and Eugene McFarland.

Daniel E. Lemme was born in Sherrill Mound, Iowa on April 5, 1897, the son of Rev. Ferdinand G. and Lydia (Bauercamper) Lemme. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church by his father. He received his education in a rural school in Linden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. From March 23, 1918 to July 26, 1919 he served in the U.S. Army. He returned to Iowa and was married to Elma Hanna on October 9, 1921 at Grant Lutheran Church, Woden, Iowa. Lemme was a member of the Thompson Community School Board, the American Legion and the VFW in Thompson, and several other committees and boards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Ben Lemme, Dave Lemme, Paul Lemme, and Carl Lemme; and 4 sisters, Esther, Ruth, Paula, and Clara.

He is survived by his wife, Elma; a son Keith Lemme of Forest City, Iowa, a daughter, Barbara Engles of Bloomington, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Theodore Lemme of Portland, Oregon, and Amos Lemme of Waukon, Iowa and 3 sisters, Mrs. Sarah Kiesau of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Martha DeLap of Lexington, Nebraska and Mrs. Alma McFarland of Britt, Iowa.
