Obituary, probably from the "Britt Tribune," dated Thursday, 16 Feb 1961:
Rites Held for Dr. F. E. Heacox, Retired Dentist
Practiced in Britt 52 Years; Worked with Boys and Community

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon [13 Feb 1961] here in the Methodist Church for Dr. F. E. Heacox, a highly respected, retired Britt dentist who died unexpectedly last Wednesday at his home here. The services were in charge of the Rev. Warren S. Paige and interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

"Doc," as he was known to everyone, practiced dentistry in Britt for over 50 years, retiring in 1951. He had maintained his office in the same location during his entire working years. During this time he was also an outstanding layman and worker in the Methodist church and retired from this the same year. One of his outstanding qualities was his ability to work with young boys and men giving them counseling and guidance. A sign which always hung in his office will be remembered by many, "A good man dies when a boy goes wrong."

He had been a wheel chair patient for some time as the result of a broken hip suffered a few years ago but this did not mar his kind and genial nature.

Francis Eugene Heacox, son of Charles Edwin and Harriet Adelaide, was born at Morris, Ill., April 25, 1873. he was educated in the rural schools in Sugar Grove, Ill. For two or three years after graduating from high school he taught country schools in the vicinity of Morris.

In 1895, he entered Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. He graduated in 1898 and during vacation periods assisted dentists in Iron Wood, Michigan and New London, Wisconsin. In Oct. of '98, he came to Britt, Ia., to assist in the dental office of Dr. Flagg, and a short time later purchased the practice. Dr. Heacox maintained his dental practice in Britt for 52 years.

June 15, 1904 he was married to Mattie Bailey. To this union three children were born: Edwin, Tacoma, Washington; Maynard, Hammond, Indiana, and Martha (Mrs. Glen Bergan), Williams, Minnesota.

Dr. Heacox was a life member of the American Dental Association; a life member of Darius Lodge No. 431, A. F. & A. M., and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Methodist church and served it faithfully throughout his entire life. His greatest work was with boys and he taught a boys Sunday School class for a great many years.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by one sister, Rosabel Robinson, Long Beach, California; 11 grandchildren, and a host of friends.
