Obituary Notice, Forest City Summit, Forest City, Winnebago County, Iowa dated 20 January 1982

Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Thompson of Forest City were held Friday afternoon at the United Methodist church in Forest City. The Rev. James Louk officiated.

Burial was in Madison Township cemetary with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Soloist for the service were Mrs. Carolee Clauson Woodard and Mrs. Diane Thompson and Mrs. Donelle Clauson Mackey was organist. Casket bearers were Tracy Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Eugene Thompson and Elmer Wilde Jr.

Mrs. Thompson, 96, died Jan. 18 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Bertina Peterson Thompson was born Aug. 28 1886, in Clermont, the daughter of John C. and Thora Nelson Peterson. Her mother died when she was nine and two years later, her father moved his family by covered wagon to a farm west of Forest City.

Mrs. Thompson and her husband, Harry, were the first class attending Waldorf College in 1903. She taught school until her marriage to Harry I. Thompson May 4, 1910.

The couple started farming in Linden Township, moved to a farm in Forest Township and then to the Peterson family farm in Linden Township.

In 1950, they moved to Crystal Lake and in 1962, the Thompson moved to their present home in Forest City. For more than 20 years, the Thompson spent the winter months in Harlingen, Texas.

They were able to maintain their home in Forest City until they entered the Good Samaritan Center in December, 1981.

Survivors include her husband, Harry; five children, Orville C. Thompson of Britt, Mrs. Donald (Thora) Clauson, Terry Thompson, and Richard Thompson, all of Forest City, and Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Vergeront of Riverside, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Clifford (Joy) Rasmus of Wells, Minn; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
