Death Claims a Britt Real Estate Man
Louis H. Rasmuson, Son of Pioneers, Passes at Park Hospital, Mason City
Louis H. Rasmuson, real estate & loan agent with offices in the Way-Healy building, died very suddenly Thursday about twenty-four hours after being admitted to Park hospital, Mason City. He was stricken Monday night, grew worse Tuesday & by Wednesday his condition was so critical that a ambulance was engaged to take him tothe hospital. He had been in failing health & last spring spent a short time in a hospital at Iowa City.
Louis H. Rasmuson was born a son to Mr. & Mrs R. s. Rasmuson, early pioneers in the vicinity northeast of Britt. Date of his birth was June 16, 1882. At death he attained an age of 62 years, 5 months, 28 days. He grew up here at Britt & finished schooling, following which he entered the Hill & Hall Bank at Westly & worked there for a number of years.
On October 5, 1904, he entered into matrimony with Miss Effa Barber at Stanley, Norht Dakota. After a short honeymoon he brought his bride to Wesley & there their first children were born. In 1910 the family moved to Spencer & for two years he ran a variety store. Then he took over the Spencer theatre, which he managed 1912 to 1931, when the big Spencer fire burned the building. In 1935 he moved to Brainerd, Minnesota & in 1941 he came back to Britt to engage in real estate & loans.
Surviving him are his aged mother, Mrs. R. S. Rasmuson, a sister, Mrs. E. P. Healy & a brother, William J. Rasmuson, all at Britt; a sister, Emma (Mrs. Fred Hill) at Oak Park, Illinois; his wife Effa & a son Louis W., Jr., at Cherokee; a son Gordon at Brainerd, Minn., a son Russell at Garner, a son Morris at Minneapolis, Minn. & an adopted daughter, Dolly Ann Rasmuson at Britt. There are five grandchildren.
As a boy he was baptised in the Congregational church at Britt. After moving to Spencer he & all his family united with the Episcopalian church, where he kept his membership since. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. at Spencer.
Funeral rites were conducted in teh Congregational church at Britt at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Herbert Kelly, officiating. Members of the Spencer & Britt Odd Fellows lodges attended in a body & gave the commital rites at the grave in Evergreen cemetery.
Louis Rasmuson was a man of many sorrows. To him came grievous trials time & time again, but he bore up & did not complain. As a man he ws very popular & made many friendships that lasted through the years. His aged mother & other relatives have the deepest sympathy of these friends.
