Colin Kennedy, 83, Webster City, died Sunday, July 1 at the Hamilton County Hospital. Graveside committal services will be held Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery. A memorial service will be held that same day at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational UCC of Webster City, Rev. Leroy Franz officiating.

Colin Kennedy, son of David and Iola (Brueck) Kennedy, was born Aug. 16, 1906 in Battle Creek, Iowa, where he was also educated and graduated from high school in 1924. He attended Iowa State College in Ames, and received his B.A. degree in agricultural journalism in 1928. He was employed for two years as farm editor at the Waterloo Courier. While attending college, he met Melba M. Nisewanger, and the couple married March 9, 1929, in the Memorial Union on the college campus. They were the first couple to marry there.

In 1930, the couple moved to Chicago, where he was employed with the Drovers Journal. In 1942, he joined the staff of the Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association, where he worked until 1946, when returning to Iowa and moving to Webster City. He was managing editor and staff photographer for the Aberdeen Angus Journal until retiring in 1979. He was a nationally known recognized authority and reporter for the Aberdeen Angus Breed.

He is survived by his wife, Melba, Webster City; three daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Les) Schroeppel, Provo, Utah; Audrey (Mrs. Richard) Burtnett, Duncombe; and Janet (Mrs. Baron) Short, Webster City; a son, David C. Kennedy, St. Louis, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, May (Mrs. Art) Porter, Ames; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Baron Short; and a grandson, Grant Short.

Mr. Kennedy was a member of the First Congregational UCC of Webster City.
