May, 1983Funeral services for Floyd Young, 79, of Stratford were held Monday, May 9 in the First Baptist Church in Stratford. Rev. Robert Haring conducted the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment was held in Oakwood Cemetery at Stratford.
Mr. Young passed away Saturday morning, May 7, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.
During the service Mrs. Jerald Chally, Mrs. Dean Coulter and Mrs. Norman Erickson sang "All the Way" and "What a Friend" accompanied by Mrs. Norman Erickson. Bearers were LuVerne Angstrom, Dale Carlson, Duane Simonson, Dr. Duane Town, Jon Young and Robert Young.
Floyd A. Young was born on April 22, 1904 near Stratford. He was the son of Jonas and Hilda (Bocklund) Young. He attended rural schools and started farming at an early age in the Stratford area. Floyd married Gladys Carlson in 1928 at their home in Stratford. The couple operated a grain and livestock farming operation for 42 years. They retired in 1970 and continued living on the farm. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1978.
Floyd was a charter member of the Stratford Lions Club and was a former director of the rural school board and a former officer of the Marion Electric Association. He had served on the board of Stratford Grain and Supply Co-op for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys, Stratford; daughters, Mrs. Robert (Geraldine) Conklin, Mrs. Robert (Genevieve) Ferrari, and son, Darrell Young, all of Stratford; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Mrs. Dora Simonson, Stratford and brothers, Arthur Young, Stratford and Oscar Young, Bentonville, Ark.
