C.S. Iles Passes Away
Chas. S. Iles passed away at his home in Des Moines Saturday forenoon about 11 o'clock a few hours after suffering a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Iles was a former townsman and was very well known in this community where he had resided for many years previous to his removal to Des Moines. His health of latter years has not been good, he having been ill with uremic poisoning some time ago which was followed with a stroke of paralysis. The stroke of last week was the third one which he had suffered and he did not long survive it. Two sisters, Mrs. A. Fuller and Mrs. Walter Deck, and two brothers, Fred and Val Iles reside in this locality.
Funeral services were held at Des Moines Tuesday and the remains then shipped here and a short service was held at the Oakwood cemetery yesterday and the remains placed to rest beside those of his first wife. Stratford friends extend condolences to the bereaved family and relatives.

Charles Southard Iles was born near Danville, Iowa, [the son of John Henry & Elizabeth Southard Iles] November 29, 1855, and died at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, November 9, 1918, at the age of 62 years, 11 months and ten days. He came to Webster county with his parents in 1858 and grew to manhood on the old home farm in Yell township. He was married to Viola Hook May 16, 1878, who died June 12, 1912. Six children were born to them: Floyd Iles and Mrs. Elsie Peterson of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Elizabeth Martin of Manila, Iowa, and Mrs. Dollie Kinney of Spokane, Washington. Two, a son and a daughter, died in infancy. He was married to Mrs. Kittie Pratt in June 1914. One child, Marjorie, was born to them.
He united with the M.E. church at Stratford in 1890. He has always lived a true and upright Christian life and by his generous and kindly disposition has won scores of friends.
He leaves to mourn his death, a wife, five children, four grand children, three sisters, two brothers, and numerous relatives and friends.

From thy life we've learned a lesson
To be faithful to the end."
"Now on earth thy work is ended:
Christ has called thee to His home;
But we know that we shall meet thee
When the •summons' to us come."
Mr. lies had been identified with many business interests in Stratford at different times before he removed to Des Moines. He was always back of any movement which was for the betterment of the community in which he lived. Strictly honest and upright he made many friends in a business way at home and abroad and by his work and energy he had accumulated considerable of this world's goods. Stratford people as a whole will revere his memory and extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
The remains arrived here Wednesday noon accompanied by Mrs. Iles and little daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Iles of Des Moines, C.A. Peterson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Martin of Manilla, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Kinney of Spokane, Washington. The funeral services were held at Oakwood cemetery at 2 o'clock where the remains were interred beside those of his first wife.
