May 30, 1901Miss Cora Holt arrived from Colorado Tuesday.
Mrs. Martha Holt departed for Denver, Colorado last week to meet a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Cora Holt.
The remains of Joseph Holt arrived from Colorado Tuesday evening and funeral services were held in the M.E. church yesterday afternoon. The funeral was under the charge of the M.W.A. Camp at this place. Deceased went to Oklahoma some years ago and engaged in the drug business when he was taken with consumption to which he soon succumbed. June 20, 1901Joseph W. Holt was born January 31, 1872, near Stratford. He was the son of Joseph and Martha [Payne] Holt. In early manhood he left home to secure an education, choosing the practice of medicine for his life work. He graduated from medical schools in Des Moines and Chicago. At the close of his college course he located at Syracuse, Kansas, afterwards moving to Oklahoma.
He was married June 26, 1895 to Miss Cora Henry, of Swan, Iowa. To them were born two children, Celia, now aged 5, and Opie, aged 2.
In 1894 he united with the Disciples or Christian church. After locating at Syracuse he identified himself with the M.E. church, but reunited with his former church in Oklahoma.
Dr. Holt was a successful physician, an active Christian and a man of sterling integrity.
The last year of his life was spent in heroic effort to regain his health, but neither medical care or travel could avert the inevitable, and on Friday, May 24, 1901, died at Delta, Col. He leaves a wife, two children, mother, four sisters and three brothers to mourn his departure, yet unto them remains the memory of an earnest, well spent life and the hope of a blessed reunion.The funeral services were held in the Stratford M.E. church, conducted by Rev. Hoelscher. Interment was in the Oakwood cemetery.
