February 19, 1914Mrs. W.H. (William Henry) Holkan passed away at the family home Thursday, February 12, 1914, at 2 p.m. after a several weeks' illness. Rumina May Spurling was born in Piatt county, Illinois, October 1, 1878, where she resided until the year 1895, when she moved with her parents to Duncombe, Iowa. On the 7th day of November, 1899, she was united in marriage to W.H. Holkan of Stanhope, Iowa. To this union four children were born - one son and three daughters, who with the husband are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother and a kind and affectionate wife. She also leaves to mourn her death a father, sister and three brothers.
The funeral services were held Saturday, conducted by Rev. H. Albertson and the remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of their many Stratford friends in their hour of sorrow.[Daughter of Garrett I. & Charity E.
