September 10, 1925Al Hengy, respected citizen of this place, passed away in Des Moines Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Johnson. He went to their home about a month ago to make his home when it was found that he was suffering with an incurable ailment, cancer, which would eventually cause his death. He had been in good health until last spring and about a month ago was given a thorough examination and the condition found which was the cause of his illness.
He came to Stratford when still a young man and had since made his home in this place. He prospered by dint of hard work and being a man of quiet and unassuming disposition, made many friends who are grieved at his passing.
The remains were brought to Stratford Tuesday and funeral services held from the M.E. church in charge of Rev. Ackerman of the Swedish Baptist church. The remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery.
Alphonse Hengy was born in Ligsdorf, Alsace Lorraine, Germany, Oct. 9, 1861 and he passed away September 5, 1925, at the age of 63 years, 11 months, 4 days. He came to America in his early twenties and had lived around Stratford the most of his life. He was married to Ida Bloomberg, Feb. 14, 1895 and she preceded him in death ten years ago. He was a member of the Swedish Baptist church of Stratford. He leaves to mourn his death, two brothers, Joseph of Minnesota Lake, Minn., and Alexander of Easton, Minn., and a brother and sister in France, besides other relatives and friends.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
