October 1931Nils Ellis Hedlund was born at Kalmar Län, Sweden, Oct. 19, 1899, and died at the hospital in Petoskey, Mich., Oct. 9, 1931, at the age of 31 years, 11 months, 20 days.
The funeral services were held in the Lutheran church here, Monday, the Rev. Anton Chell, pastor of the church, in charge. Deceased had been a member of the church during his boyhood days here. The text used by the pastor was taken from Psalms 119:1. A double quartet rendered "Beyond the Hill Tops," "Sweet Bye and Bye," and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Dr. M.E. Pomeroy, Ralph Barquist, L.W. Swanson, Franklin Rose, Floyd Carlson and Frank Poulson. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his mother, sister and older brother in Oakwood Cemetery.
Deceased came to Stratford with his mother, two sisters and three brothers in 1900. In 1914 he was confirmed in the local Lutheran church and in 1917 graduated from Stratford High School. For a few years he taught in the rural schools of the vicinity and also took an active interest in the work of the church. Having talent for singing he often took part in programs and was missed very much by the church when he left. He left Stratford in 1921 and on May 19, 1922, was united in marriage to Renolia Holloman and they located at Harbor Springs, Mich. Two children were born of this union, one passing away at the age of 13 days.
In 1925 he became paralyzed and remained in that condition until his death. In all his suffering he was always cheerful and patient. He leaves his wife and one daughter, Dorothy, two brothers, Herman and Oscar Hedlund, one sister, Ms. W.H. Pharo, and other relatives.[son of Jonas Alfred & Emma Lovisa Petersdotter Hedlund]
