Stratford people were shocked Tuesday morning to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Peter Hedlind, who died at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning after an illness of only a few hours.
While working in the garden she was suddenly taken with pains in her stomach, continually growing worse until Tuesday morning when she died. She was about 57 years old and leaves a husband and three children to mourn her death.
The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the residence.Stratford Courier, Stratford, Iowa
August 25, 1904Christina Hedlind was born in Alfta socken, Sweden, October 7, 1845 and died at her home in Stratford August 16, 1904 at 8 o'clock a.m. at the age of 58 years, 10 months and 9 days.
She came to America in 1867 and on August 26, 1870 was married to Peter Hedlind. Their union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four daughters. Three sons preceded them to the great beyond. She also left to mourn her loss, four grandchildren and four brothers, besides her husband and a host of friends.
Suddenly taken ill on Monday last week she died Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. One of the daughters was on her way home from a visit in Sweden, another was in New York when the sad news of their mother's death was telegraphed to them. Separated by thousands of miles the blow came exceptionally hard to these two ladies, one of whom had not seen her mother for more than a year and then had left her in usual health. Such partings as these are hard to bear on this earth, but the bond of God's love in the true Christian heart, such as was this mother's heart, and the same true love in the hearts of the four daughters and the father, is only drawn tighter and will make the meeting in the great beyond all the dearer on that glad day.
The funeral was held Sunday from the M.E. church and was attended by a very large crowd, Rev. John Linn officiating at the service. The remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery.Card of Thanks
