February 19, 1914Peter Hedlind passed away Tuesday morning, February 10, 1914, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.A. Peterson, at Des Moines. He had not been in very good health for some time and while residing here last fall complained of not feeling very strong, feeling that his time on this earth would soon be over, so in the early part of the fall he went to Des Moines to make his home with his daughter. A number of weeks ago he contracted pneumonia, which resulted in his death. Mr. Hedlind was one of the pioneer settlers of this community. After the death of his wife a number of years ago he moved to Des Moines, and made his home with his daughter, and a part of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Gust Lindell. A portion of this time he would reside in Stratford for several months at a time. Mr. Hedlind was a sincere Christian, a kind and loving father and was respected and liked by a host of friends in Stratford.
Peter Hedlind was born in Sweden 81 years ago. He came to America in 1865 and was united in marriage to Christine Erickson August 26, 1870. Seven children were born to this union, of which three daughters, Mrs. Annie Lindell of Berkley, Iowa; Mrs. Tilda Peterson of Des Moines; and Mrs. Ida Jacobson of New Britain, Conn., are left to mourn his departure.
The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Swedish Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Robert Larson. At the conclusion of the services the many friends who had gathered were permitted to take a parting look at their old friend, after which the remains were escorted to the Oakwood cemetery, where they were interred.[the headstone says HEDLUND]
