JOHN WEHRHEIM IS DEAD
Dies at Mercy Hospital of Cancer of the Bladder, Last Thursday. Funeral at Webster City Last Saturday.
PROMINENT HAMILTON CO PIONEER
Thursday morning, August 7th a little before five o'clock at St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Webster City occurs the death of John Wehrheim of Jewell, one of the oldest and widest known pioneer residents of southern Hamilton county. Cancer of the bladder caused his death. The funeral was held from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church in Webster City Saturday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Father Barry.
John Wehrheim was 70 years of age having been born in Evansville, Illinois, in 1843. He came to Hamilton county in the year 1870 and settled on the old home place where he had lived ever since. He was the eldest resident of his immediate community. He was married in 1866 to Mary A. Swift at Elkader, Iowa, who survives him. Twelve children were born of this union, one of whom, Sylvester, preceded him about two months. The surviving children are: John of Dows, William of Eagle Grove, George of Alden, Simon of Peterson, M. J. of Woolstock, Mrs. Lucile Brown of St. Cloud, Minn., Mrs. A. C. Houlihan of Los Angeles, Calif., and V. H. and L. E. Wehrheim who live at home with their parents.
John Wehrheim had bee a life long and faithful member of the Catholic church. He was a good man in all the relations of life and was widely known and highly respected by all. He had lived a good life and in his passing, the sympathies of a host of warm friends goes out to the wife and children.
