From Jewell Record October 2, 1913

W. C. Cochran Passes Away.

It is with regret that the Record chronicles the passing away of one of the respected residents of Jewell, Mr. Wm. C. Cochran who passed away suddenly Monday morning, September 29th, at two o'clock. Mr. Cochran has been in poor health for three months past but has been up and has attended to his work at the feed barn until about three weeks ago. Sunday he seemed to be better but a hemorrhage of the brain brought on his death almost without warning.

W. C. Cochran was born in Lycoming county, Philadelphia [sic], and was 74 years, 10 months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Kathryn Yetley at Williamsport, Penn., July 10, 1864. To this union seven children were born, John H. of Forman, N. Dak., Chas. E. of Slayton, Minn., Mrs. Lizzie McElvain of Hurdsfield, N. Dak., Mrs. Ella Harman, Mrs. Clara Baldus, and Irvin H., all of Jewell and Frankie, who died at the age of seven. The wife died 18 years ago last March. The six children all survive and all were here to attend the funeral services yesterday. Four sisters also survive him, who still reside in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Cochran resided in Pennsylvania until 1868 when with his family he removed to Marshall county, Iowa, and in 1880 moved to Hamilton county, having lived near Jewell ever since. Mr. Cochran was a fine old gentleman whom everybody liked. He was a friend to everybody, and everyone in the community ill regret his passing away.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Baldus, conducted by Rev. Norstad, and the body was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
