DR. ALLEN LOSES A BROTHER
The people of Jewell were shocked when word came Friday that the brother of Dr. W. S. Allen had died at Victor, Colorado, the day before. Dr. Allen had gone to Colorado and Sunday before, called there by a message announcing that his brother was suffering from a stroke of paralysis, and arrived there in time to be at his brother's death bed. The remains were brought to Jewell for interment, and funeral services were held from the Dr. Allen home Monday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. Claude J. Miller, pastor of the Church of Christ. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
Ulysses Grant Allen was born July 23rd, 1865, in Davis county, Indiana. After securing a common school education, he attended normal 1884-5, and during his Normal course he confessed Christ, and was immersed by Elder Davis of the Baptist church.
In 1885 he went to Montana where he was engaged in farming for 18 years. He then went to Victor, Colo., where he worked in the mines until his death December 9th, 1909. The foul air and smoke of the mine, coupled with a weak heart caused paralysis which resulted in death.
Mr. Allen was a member of two fraternal orders, the "Eagles," and the Junior O. U. A. M., the latter a mechanics order admitting to membership only American born citizens who are believers in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
He leaves to mourn his loss a father, sister and three brothers residing in Indiana besides the brother, Dr. Allen, residing in Jewell.
