OBITUARY
MRE. M. L. HENDERSON
Josephine Johnson Henderson, daughter of John and Sophie Johnson, was born in Norway, Ill., on Dec. 25, 1863 and passed away at Randall, Iowa, August 20, 1939, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 25 days.
When a child of two years she moved with her parents to Benton county, Iowa, where her parents passed away, the father when she was but 10 years old.
On June 4, 1889, she was baptized, confirmed and united in marriage to Martin L. Henderson of Randall, and had since made her home in this community.
They were the parents of eight children, four of whom survive to mourn the passing of a loving, tender mother. They are: Mrs. E. M. Ericson of Randall, with whom the deceased made her home since the passing of her husband: Walter L. Henderson of Marshall, Minn., Mrs. A. E. Kalseim of Jewell, and Porter I, Henderson of Charlotte, N. C.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. A. O. Melberg of Norway, Iowa.
For fifty years Mrs. Henderson had an established place in the Randall community, and her passing will be felt among her friends and neighbors. She and her husband were pioneer farmers, foremost in establishing advantages for the modern conduct of the farm, enthusiastic over every new development and improvement--leaders in eliminating the drudgery of farm life in the west. They were a hospitable pair, and Mrs. Henderson carried this trait into the last days of her life, always welcoming a guest or caller, and cherishing the hours they spent with her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 22, at the Elim Lutheran church, with Rev. Carl Opsahl of Jewell officiating. At the home Pauline Henderson sang, "No Not There," and Robert Erickson sang "Abide With Me." At the church the quartet, Mrs. P. G. Pederson, Mrs. Clarence Larson, S. M. Teigland and Ole J. Sopeland sang two numbers.
Interment was made in Mt. Olive cemetery, with S. M. Teigland, P. J. Okland, Severin Tjentland, Orville Anderson, Bert Grimsley and B. A. Anderson serving as casketbearers.
Offerings in her memory included $10 to the parochial school and $5 to the Ladies Aid.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Huntoon and Betty Erickson of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Erickson of Bode; Walter L. Henderson and Pauline, Carolyn and Eleanor of Marshall, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Tow, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Melberg of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Milo Melberg of Norway, Ia.; Mrs. Paul Evans of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Thomas of Dumont; Mrs. Anna Ericson, Mrs. Carrie Henryson, Mrs. Cosette Marvick, M.
