FUNERAL AND OBITUARY OF WILLIAM N. MAAKESTAD

The funeral of Wm. N. Maakestad was held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Solum conducting the services in the North St. Petri church. A large concourse of people was present and the floral offerings were very large, testifying in a striking manner to the friendship and esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. Among those from a distance to attend the funeral were the following: Mrs. Nettie Bruner and Wm. T. Anderson of Freeport, Ill.; Stella Anderson of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Martin Severson of Dows.

OBITUARY

William Nelson Maakestad was born September 21, 1849, at Jaastad Hardanger, Norway, his parents bein Nils and Anna Reesetter. He died at his home in Randall, Wednesday morning April 7, 1915, at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 14 days.

In the spring of 1864, he moved with his parents to Maakestad, where he lived until he came to America, arriving at Dement, Ill., March 13, 1871. In January 1873, he left for Kansas where he took up a homestead. After proving up on his homestead he with his family moved to Iowa, traveling in a covered wagon. In 1903, having retired from farming, he moved to Randall where he lived at the time of his death.

He was married November 5, 1873 to Anna Seymour who died July 29, 1901. To this union eight children were born. Those living are Franklin at Omemee, N. D.; Carrie at La Crosse, Wis.; Severt at Sumas, Wash.; Emily at Livermore; and William at Ames.

On November 10, 1904, he was married to Mary Ingebritson and to this union one daughter, Harriet was born. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Olson of Grasco, Kansas, and Permilla Aga, Hardanger, Norway. The deceased was an active member of the North St. Petri church, having been one of the men who helped build the church. He was also an active man in public life, having held the office of County Supervisor, Township Trustee, and Township Clerk.
