JOHN PAULSON DIED FRIDAY

Funeral of Well Known Citizen Held Monday Afternoon

John O. Paulson died at his home northwest of Story City last Friday, following a gradual tearing down of his vital forces during an illness of nearly two years.

Funeral services were held Monday, a brief prayer service at the home at 1:30 and then at 2 o'clock in the Grace church, of which he was a member. Rev. Fuller conducted the services, preaching from Paul's great text: "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"

A quartet consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Stanton James, Ethel Olson and Ira Christenson sang several selections. The pall bearers were Pete Peterson, Nels Larson, Chas. Kammin, Henry West, Chris Kammin and Fred Peterson.

Interment was made at Center cemetery.

Obituary

The following obituary was read at the service:
John Otto Paulson was born in Ellsworth township, Hamilton county, Iowa, Oct 24, 1880, and departed this life near Story City Aug. 30, 1929, aged 48 years, 10 months and 6 days, virtually all his life bein lived in the same community, or at least within a few miles of his birthplace.

He was united in marriage Dec. 18, 1907, to Miss Emma Anderson of the same community. To this union were born four children, two of whom died at birth.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two children, Luella Mae and Orville Luverne; three brothers and four sisters, Mr. F. P. Reuillard of Maryville, Mo.; Peter of Story City; Mrs. D. E. Wayman of Webster City; Nels, Mrs. Hans Nelson, Henry and Neah of Story City. He was preceded in death by one brothers, Chris, who died in 1925, and one sister, Mrs. Elzie Larson who died in 1910.

Mr. Paulson was also held in high esteem by his friends and neighbors, if a person can judge by the many kind words spoken by them concerning him. He had lived 10 years on the present farm.

He united with the Grace Evangelical church with his entire family under the ministry of Rev. L. L. Orth in 1926, remaining a member of the same until his death. After a long illness, extending many months, he was taken from us, but in his going he has left a testimony that should help the faith of the living to a greater confidence in God. On the night before his death he called to those within hearing, "Good night; trust in the Lord," and as he approached the end he repeated time and again these words, "I see Jesus."

It is as if on entering another realm and while still in touch with the power of speech he would reveal to those who waited by his side that which he saw. Thus whatever may have been his sins or failures or mistakes in life the end was glorious and then entrance into the other realm triumphant.
