OBITUARY OF MRS. ANNA MARKUS [sic]

Anna Tomine Markus was born near Randall Nov. 20, 1868. She died May 11, 1929, at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 21 days. She was taken suddenly ill and died at the hospital in Webster City following an operation for cancer of the bowels.

Her parents were Andrew and Kathrine Knutson.

The deceased has always lived in Hamilton county. She grew to womanhood on a farm east of Randall, lived a few years near Williams, and about two years ago moved to Ellsworth.

On Jan. 16, 1896, she was united in marriage to John Markus. To this union five children were born. The children, who remain to mourn the loss of a dear mother are, Myron and Arnt of Williams, Clayton of Ellsworth, and Mrs. Rozella Olson, also of Williams, and also four grandchildren.

The following four sisters and two brothers also survive her: George Ness, Story City; Chas. Knutson of Bricelyn, Minn.; Mrs. Dan Knudson of Ellsworth; Theo. Knutson of Story City; Mrs. Osmund Tungesvik of Radcliffe, and Mrs. Walter McGee, Goodell. Her brother Lewis died in 1925.

The deceased was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, and she took active part in both the Mission society and Ladies Aid.

Funeral services where held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church, Ellsworth, with Rev. Carl J. Naglestad officiating. A quartet, Mrs. Leonard Lindeback, Miss Carol Peterson, E. R. Isvik and L. E. Williams, sang two numbers, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," and "Under His Wings." Mrs. Lindeback sang a solo, and Rev. G. O. Paulsrud spoke in Norwegian.

Interment was in Mamrelund cemetery, near her girlhood home and beside her husband, who passed away in 1922 at Williams.

The pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Markus: Burton Prescott, Andrew Tungesvick, Manley Hetland, Andrew Ness, Homer Ness and Roy Markus.

Mrs. Markus will be greatly missed, not only by her numerous relatives, but also by a host of neighbors and friends.

Among those who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mortvedt, and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Medhus of Paullina; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thompson of Bricelyn, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Elias Rasmussen and children of Alden; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Arthur and Mr. and Mrs. Burton Prescott of Williams; Mrs. T. O. Thompson and daughter Dolly of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Wier Egemo, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ness and Mr. and Mrs. Elias Hetland of Goodell; Jasper Thompson of Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Lars Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanson of Jewell; Dr. Mill, McCallsburg.
