MRS. OLE SATRE

Mrs. Ole Satre, on of Hamilton county's pioneer settlers who with her husband located a half a century ago in the neighborhood southwest of Jewell, after a sickness of several weeks at her home in Stanhope where she has lived for the past eleven years, passed away Christmas eve, 1922. In her passing southern Hamilton county loses another esteemed and respected woman from the now fast thinning ranks of those pioneer men and women who settled here when this territory was virgin prairie and by strenuous toll and hardship and by vigilant economy and thrift wrested a living from the soil, improved and developed the land, and made Hamilton county the wealthy and prosperous land it is today.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 27 at 1:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Hill and at 2:00 o'clock at the Lutheran church in Stanhope, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Oppedahl; and the body of Mrs. Satre was laid at rest beside that of her husband in the cemetery of St. Paul's Lutheran church southeast of Stanhope. The services were attended by a large crowd of friends and neighbors and the tributes of flowers were many and very beautiful. Music at the service included a vocal solo by Mrs. R. A. Kauffman and songs by the Lutheran choir. Five of her sons and a son-in-law served as their mother's pall-bearers: O. J. Satre, A. G. Satre, G. O. Satre, H. E. Satre, H. M. Satre and M. A. Hill.

Gjertrud Nelson was born in Sogn, Norway on March 7, 1851, and died Dec. 24, 1922, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 17 days.

In 1869 she emigrated with her parents to America landing at Webster City. She was married November 1, 1872 to Ole Satre. A year later they moved to the Satre homestead four miles east of Stanhope, where they resided until 1911 when they moved to Stanhope. Not quite two years had passed when on November 23, 2923, death called at the home and took away her husband. She continued her residence in Stanhope until two weeks before her death, she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. A. Hill, where she passed away quietly on Christmas eve.

She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, being also baptized and confirmed in that faith and remained steadfast until the end.

She leaves to mourn her loss six sons and two daughters, two sisters and two brothers, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Three sons and one daughter, four brothers and one sister have preceded her in death.

The surviving children are: Lewis O., now in Stavanger, Norway, and Mrs. M. A. Hill, O. J., A. G., G. O., H. E., H. M. and Miss Hazel Satre, all of them ling in or near Stanhope and Jewell. The sisters are Miss Hulda Nelson of Elgin, Ill., and Carrie, of Stavanger, Norway. The brothers are: Lewis Nelson of Orange, Colo., and Iver E. Nelson of near Stanhope. The sister, Miss Hulda Nelson and two cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lewis of Adams, Minn., were those from a distance who attended the funeral.
