OBITUARY

JESSE W. ROMP

J. W. Romp, well known and highly esteemed farmer who lived on the McClure farm five miles northwest of Story City, and resident of Hamilton county for almost a third of a century, died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, May 16. His death came suddenly while he was at work in the field at the farm home of his son, Guy Romp, death resulting from a heart attack. Mr. Romp had suffered from heart trouble for several years past.

Jesse Winfred Romp was the son of James J. and Mary Romp. He was born January 1, 1877, at Walnut, Kansas, and died May 16, 1942, near Story City at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 15 days.

He lived in Kansas until in the year 1891, when he moved to Twin Grove, Ill. He spent about 16 years in McLean county, Ill., farming and three years operating a butcher shop in Danvers, Ill., when in the spring of 1910 he came to Hamilton county, and had farmed in that county, living on and operating the McClure section 26 years of the 32 years he lived in Iowa, except for one year at Kanawha.

As a young man he was baptized and united with the Christian church at Twin Grove, Ill.

He was married at Covell, Ill., Dec. 20, 1899, to Emma R. Schwarzentruber. Six children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy, a daughter Gladys Fern at the age of three months and a son Ralph Wilbur at the age of five months.

He is survived by his bereaved widow and four children: Mrs. Rufus (Inez) Knudson of Jewell, Guy Winfred and Harold Glenn of Story City, and Dorothy Lucille at home. Other survivors include five brothers, Albert, Roy and George, all of San Francisco, Cal., Ora of Corpus Christi, Texas and Rollie Romp of Garner; one sister, Mrs. Ed Tryer of Santa Paula, Cal. and nine grandchildren and other relatives.

Mr. Romp was honest and upright in all of his business dealings. He was a loving husband and father, and was a fine friend and neighbor. He will be greatly missed in the home and by a large circle of friends.
