Kathleen Ann Newton, 81, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at her home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was born on January 7, 1942 to Richard and Lillian (Selheim) Miller at Boone County Hospital in Boone, IA.

Kathleen was an exceptionally kind and loving person who touched the lives of those around her with her generosity and selflessness, putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Her smile was infectious, and her warm open personality brought joy and often laughter to all those who knew her, family and friends alike.

Kathleen was passionate about cooking and baking, drawing and painting, stained glass work, sewing and crafting and loved to sing. Her work life included line management at Bourns, Inc. in Ames, IA and patient care at the Webster City Hospital as LPN. She later achieved an RN degree and worked in both the oncology ward caring for cancer patients, and on the OB ward caring for mothers and their babies at hospitals in Scottsdale, AZ. Her last position prior to retirement was with the State of Nevada as a nurse case worker providing care and information to support mothers at risk in that state. She was respected by her colleagues for her hard work and dedication to patient welfare.

Kathleen married LeRoy Sebring in 1960, and to this union a son, Mark, was born. They later divorced.

Kathleen subsequently married Melvin L. Newton May 29, 1992 in Las Vegas. In retirement they relocated to Boone, IA and then to Lake Havasu City, AZ where they lived at the time of her death.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Melvin Newton; her son, Mark (Lisa) Sebring; her grandson, Cory Sebring; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Alina Sebring; a stepson, Terry (Rose) Newton; a stepdaughter, Joan Newton; two step-grandchildren, Adin Newton and Lacey Reynolds-Newton; a sister, Bonnie Heggen (Gret Kent); a half-brother, Glen Miller; sisters-in-law, Callie Miller and Helen Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, LeRoy Sebring; two brothers, Richard Miller and Raymond Miller; sister, Marlene Branch Sebring; half-sister, Lisa Miller; and two nieces, Jessica and Stephanie Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette Ave., Story City, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Lawn Hill Cemetery near Stanhope, Iowa.
