Dewaine Zimmerman, age 90, of Ellsworth, IA passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 21st, 10:30 am at the Ellsworth United Methodist Church.

Burial took place in the Sheppard Cemetery rural Union, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, 1550 Dewitt St., Ellsworth, IA 50075.

Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe is caring for Dewaine and his family.

Dewaine Edwin Zimmerman was born on November 5, 1932 in Belle Plaine, IA. He was the third of four boys born to Carl and Gladys (Smith) Zimmerman.

He grew up in Belle Plaine where he attended school and during this time, he started piano lessons at the young age of 7. At one point he traveled by train to Chicago for his lessons. Before his senior year, the family moved to Cedar Rapids where he graduated from high school.

In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1955 with an honorable discharge. He returned to Cedar Rapids where he started working at Collins Radio.

On August 9, 1959 he was united in marriage to Lois Lepley in Union, IA. To this marriage they were blessed with four children.

Dewaine was an adventurer when it came to working. He held a variety of jobs during his lifetime which included owning his own businesses and working for others. The majority of his career was spent in food service. Along with his jobs, he and Lois spent many years making wedding cakes and did flower arrangements for weddings. He and Lois did foster care for several years and hosted exchange students.

Dewaine thoroughly enjoyed life. He loved spending time with family and traveling. When someone asked him to go somewhere he was always ready to go no matter if it was a day trip or taking a cruise somewhere. And he has been on some adventures! No matter where Dewaine went, he always found someone with whom he could strike up a conversation with. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved to play cards with his family and spent many hours doing so. And he usually won! Dewaine enjoyed spending time with his family who included his wife Lois, whom he had 47 wonderful years with, his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Dewaine went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. He passed away at his home in Ellsworth with his family by his side.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his four children, Janeen (Neil) Hungate of Otho, IA, Teresa Cornelison of Ellsworth, IA, Tami Zimmerman of Magnolia, TX and Brian Zimmerman of Ellsworth, IA; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; along with other relatives and friends.

Dewaine was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents and two brothers.
