Verona Yates, age 86 of Webster City, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Southfield Wellness Community from a cancer-related illness. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Foster Funeral Center, 800 Willson Ave., Webster City, with Rev. Doresa Collogan officiating. Following the luncheon, interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service.

Verona Lee Nissen, daughter of Ardell and Evelyn (Van Langen) Nissen, was born on March 15, 1937 in Kamrar, IA. She attended elementary and junior high schools in Kamrar. In 1951, she moved with her family to Webster City, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954. Following graduation she was employed at Naden Industries as a secretary.

On August 6, 1955, she married M. Dean Yates. The family relocated to Bloomington, Indiana in January of 1961. They returned to Webster City in December, 1965. She worked in the secretarial field at W.C. Middle School, Modern Farm Systems, Van Diest Supply, Messerly Bookkeeping and Arrowhead AEA.

Verona was an active member of the Asbury UMC, involved in Hamilton Co. Hospital Auxiliary, RSVP, and a former Sunday School teacher. She also served on the Hamilton County Cancer Board and Relay for Life. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and board games. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and KC Chiefs fan. She also liked to crochet, read books, birdwatching and work on puzzles.

Verona was preceded in death by her husband, Dean (1992), and her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda (Dennis) Crane, West Des Moines; sons Mitch (Kelly) Yates, Webster City; Jim (Carla) Yates, Kansas City, MO; sister, Miriam (Ken) Lossi, GA; grandchildren Logan (Bailey Ormsby, fiancee), North Liberty, IA; Carlee (Chase) Berhow, Webster City; brother-in-law, Andy Yates and sister-in-law Sandy Yates; numerous nieces and nephews.
