Thomas F. Madsen, 81, longtime resident of Webster City, died Sunday morning at his home, 2020 Edgewood Drive, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational UCC church with Rev. Alva Hohl officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at which time the casket will be taken to the church.

Those desiring may give memorials to the Hospice program or Meals-on-Wheels.

Thomas Floyd Madsen, son of Nels and Catherine Jensen Madsen, was born May 10, 1902 at Mentor, Minn., and was educated in that community.

He moved to Hamilton county in 1923 and worked on farms in the Stanhope area. On Dec. 15, 1926 he was united in marriage to Clara Layton at Webster City.

The couple farmed near Stanhope and also farmed near Bells Mill and south of Webster City before moving to a farm southeast of Blairsburg in 1956. He retired in 1962 and the family moved to Webster City.

He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law Roger and Bonnie Madsen of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren, Dr. RoJean Madsen of Chicago, Martin Madsen of Omaha and Craig and Nancy Madsen of Indianapolis, one brother and two sisters, Maurice Madsen, Indianapolis, Mrs. Anna Johnston of Augus, [sp?] Minn., and Mrs. Jesse (Laura) Halverson of Fertile, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter, both in infancy; his parents; two brothers and four sisters.

He was a member of the First Congregational church and the Webster City Elks club.
