Alice Ose, 77, Ames, died Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Blairsburg with Pastor John Wilson officiating. Private interment will be in Williams Cemetery next to her late husband, Vernon Ose, who preceded her on March 14, 1977.

Alice Pauline Sprugel, daughter of George and Frances Strong Sprugel, was born Dec. 1, 1927 at Williams. She graduated from Williams High School in 1945. She received her teaching certificate from Ellsworth Junior College at Iowa Falls, graduating in 1947. On June 14, 1947 she married Vernon Noel Ose in the Methodist Church at Williams. She taught for three years in the Blairsburg and Williams School system in the late 1940s. Alice was a dedicated farm wife and volunteer tutor of many school children in the area. She was also very active as a volunteer for Hospice of Hamilton and Story Counties and a former board member of the Hamilton County Hospital. She was a member of the Blairsburg United Church of Christ Congregational where she was very active till moving to Ames in 1983. In Ames, she co-owned a candy business known as Sweet Treats. She retired from Wal-Mart of Ames at the age of 75 in 2003 where she had worked for over 10 years.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Alan and Anne Sherve Ose of Williams, Jerry Ose of Blairsburg, daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Jim Jetter of Iowa City, Jann and Bill Gullick of Seminole, Fla., five grandchildren, Sam Ose of Ames, Rachel Ose of Williams, Amy and Eric Jetter of Iowa City and Ben Gullick of Seminole, Fla., two brothers and sister-in-law, John and Lovice Sprugel of Liberty, Mo., Dr. Charles and Gladys Sprugel of Iowa Falls; two sisters and brother-in-law, Martha Thompson of Johnston; Myrtle and Wally Hollingsworth of Phoenix, Ariz., and sister-in-law, Kay Sprugel of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Sprugel Jr., and brother-in-law Archie Thompson.
