Leroy "Ted" Newby, 81, Venice, Fla., died Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Venice Hospice House. He was born April 6, 1921 in Crafton, Pa., and moved to Venice in 1990 from Webster City.

Mr. Newby retired from sales after 20 years with White Consolidated Industries in Webster City. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and a volunteer. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and had been very active in the writing group at the Senior Friendship Center. Mr. Newby was the author of "Target Ploesti-A View from a Bomb Sight," and "Into the Guns of Ploesti."

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nellebell "Chris" Newby, Venice, Fla.; a daughter, Patti Heath of Sarasota, Fla., a son, Dan LeRoy Newby, Crescent, Iowa; a brother, Jack Newby of Pittsburgh, Pa., and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, Fla. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
