Leon A. Root, 75, of Webster City, died Friday, December 12, 2003 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and prior to the services on Tuesday. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Leon Allen Root, son of Arthur and Marie Norris Root, was born May 15, 1928 at Dows. He received his education at Dows, graduating in 1946. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 in the Pacific Ocean area during the Korean War. On September 21, 1951 he married Rogene Oler at San Diego, Ca. Following his discharge, they returned to Dows where he owned and operated an appliance store from 1952 to 1960. They moved to Webster City and he worked for Home Appliance for 7 years, Superior Shopping Center for 2 years and Crosley and Foster for 1 year. In 1970, they bought Modern Cleaners. He retired in 1993, but continued to work at Modern Cleaners part-time. Mr. Root is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Robert Shadle of Cedar Falls, Joan and Morrie O'Hearn of Webster City; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ann Root of Webster City, grandchildren, Sarah, Nathan and Rachel Shadle; Joey and Jordan Root, Connor, Carly, Emma and Ella O'Hearn, sister-in-law, Velva Root of Dows, 6 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin Root.

He was a member of the Webster City Country Club, Moose Lodge #735, American Legion Post #191 and a former Elks member.
