Myrtle Monroe, 97, Webster City, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and prior to service on Monday.

Myrtle Carrie Porter, daughter of Jesse and Mattie Davis Porter, was born Sept. 20, 1906 at Fort Dodge. She received her education at Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School. On Oct. 22, 1924 she married Arnold B. Monroe at Fort Dodge. The couple farmed south of Webster City. Mr. Monroe died Nov. 6, 1969. She continued to reside on the family farm.

Mrs. Monroe is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, William Monroe, Dean and Valerie Monroe, all of Webster City; grandchildren Yvonne Nilles, Michelle Pearson, Cheri Daya, Gina Monroe, Keith Monroe, Kenneth Monroe, Leila Webb and Laura Jordon; 14 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; step-brother Richard Wayman of Mapleton, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Adria Monroe; sisters, Hellen Burton, Elsie LaMond; Mabel LaVal; Olive White; Marguerite Martin.

She was a former member of Purity Rebekah Lodge #72 of Webster City. She also was a member of the Sovereign Grand Lodge, Ladies Encampment Auxiliaries of the World, and she served as the first Grand Matriarch in 1953 and 1954. Arnold and Myrtle, both, were active in the operations of the IOOF at Webster City, statewide and nationally.
