Elmer Streb, 95, of Newton, a former Webster City area farmer, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the USA Health Care at Newton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. John Flaherty, celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and at the church prior to Mass.

Elmer August Streb, son of Simon and Sophia Sluga Streb, was born June 21, 1908 at Mineral, Il. His family moved to the Highview, Ia. area and he attended rural schools in that area. On February 3, 1937 he married Elene A. Pilk at Webster City. The couple farmed in the Highview area until his retirement. To this union a daughter and a son were born. Elene Streb died August 7, 1971. After his retirement, he worked at Van Diest Supply for several years. On December 31, 1973 he married Vera Walters Strickland. The couple resided at Webster City. Vera Streb died February 2, 1989. He had resided at Newton for the last 6 years.

Mr. Streb is survived by daughter Mary Swedlund of Newton, grandchildren, Larry Streb, Cherri Dearing and Kimberly Frost, 7 great-grandchildren, sister, Emma Holkan of Wheatland, Wy.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jerry Streb; 2 grandsons; a granddaughter; brothers, Edwin and Herman Streb.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas, Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Newton and Knights of Columbus.
