Elsie Young, 88, formerly of Stratford, died Saturday, May 20, 2000 at the Evangelical Free Church Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Dale Schoening and Lay Assistant Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation will be at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Stratford is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Bergman was born Dec. 11, 1911 near Dayton, the daughter of Henry and Amanda Thid Bergman. She received her education in the Dayton area. She married Arthur S. Young at Stratford on March 27, 1941. She helped her husband with the farming operation near Stratford until 1981 when the couple retired and moved into Stratford. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford.

Survivors are two brothers, Alvie Bergman and Leonard Bergman, both of Stratford, a sister, Edith Bright of Clovis, Calif., several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, in October, 1995, an infant son, Neal Douglas in 1944, a brother, Herbert Bergman in 1990, and a sister, Esther Satre in 1982.
