Mona Marie Gerstenberger, 83, Webster City, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Independence, Iowa. Burial will be in the Stanley Cemetery, Stanley, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the White Funeral Home, Independence. Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, handled local arrangements.

Mona Marie Morgan, daughter of William and Ethel James Morgan, was born Jan. 17, 1917 at Stanley, Iowa. She graduated from Stanley High School in 1934. She attended Gated Business College at Waterloo. From 1936 to 1939 she worked as a secretary at the Oelwein Creamery. On June 20, 1939 she married Kyle Gerstenberger at Oelwein. The couple farmed near Aurora and Rowley before moving to Independence. She worked as a secretary and a youth aide for the Buchanan County Extension Service from 1962 to 1982. Mr. Gerstenberger died June 21, 1994. She moved to Webster City in 1998.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws; Aaron and Linda Gerstenberger, Douglasville, Georgia, Duane and Mary Gerstenberger, Seattle, WA, daughter and son-in-law, Adele and Dean Bowden, Webster City; six grandchildren; Jeff Bowden, Janna Heater, Renee Owen, David Gerstenberger, Jennifer Gerstenberger, Lara Simmons, eight great-grandchildren, sisters Helen Buell, Wichita, KS, Leota Didier, Dubois, WY, Wilma Hoth, Omaha, NE, Mary Winkless, Kenosha, WI, sister-in-law, Rozella Morgan, Oelwein, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother Clyde Morgan.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence, associate member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Webster City, member and past president of Professional Business Women's Association. She was active in United Methodist Women, Independence, Webster City Garden Club and United Methodist Church of Webster City.
