Dale Kane, 80, Stratford, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford, with flag folding services to be conducted by American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post No. 576. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday until the service time.

Dale Kane, son of Carl and Bertha Berglund Kane, was born March 16, 1920 in Hardin Township near Stratford. He attended rural schools in Webster and Boone Counties and was a 1938 graduate of Stratford High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years during World War II where his unit was part of the invasion of France. He married Janiece A. Lehman Huen at Stratford on August 8, 1949. He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and retired in 1981 with 33 and 1/2 years of service as a depot agent, telegrapher, train dispatcher and assistant Chief dispatcher. He was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church and the American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post 576 of Stratford. He was active in community activities having served as a director on the Stratford Community School Board, Stratford Chamber of Commerce, United Mutual Insurance Association and the Lutheran Church Council. For five years, he delivered meals for the congregate meals program.

Survivors are his son and two daughters, Steve Kane of Stratford, Sharon Savits of Ogden and Cindy Kane of Ames; four grandchildren, Mike Savits of Ogden, Melissa Savits of Des Moines, Jordan Kane and Spencer Kane, both of Stratford; two great-grandchildren, Leah and Logan Savits of Ogden; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Leah Kane, Boone; a nephew, Gary Kane of Des Moines, and a niece, Dana Marchant, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janiece in April of 1989, and a sister, Cheryl Kane in November of 1986.

Memorials may be given to the Stratford Lutheran Church.
