LEONA (MRS. A.W.) CRYSTAL, 66, rural Webster City, died Monday, April 27 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for six weeks. She had been in failing health the past seven years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thurs., April 30 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard L. Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Leona Marguerite Deakman, daughter of Henry and Hazel Groves Deakman, was born Dec. 3, 1920 at Webster City. She was educated in the Blairsburg community and graduated from Webster City High School in 1938.
She married Harry D. Stewart on May 14, 1939 at Blairsburg. The couple farmed in the Blairsburg community. To this marriage one son and one daughter were born. She was preceded in death by her husband in October of 1944.
On July 10, 1949, she married Ammon (Bill) Crystal at Blairsburg. The couple farmed in the Webster City area. One son and one daughter were born to the couple.
In 1978, the couple retired, but continued to live on the farm north of Webster City.
Survivors are her husband, two daughters and two sons, Shirley (Mrs. Harvey) Hansen of Goshen, Ind., Donald D. Stewart and Joseph Lynn Crystal, both of Webster City; JoAnn Crystal of Gaithesburg, MD; one step-daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Robert) Chester of Rantoul, Ill.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, and one brother.
She was a member of the first Baptist Church and served in various church positions. Mrs. Crystal was also a Cass Township Trustee, a Hamilton County 4-H leader for several years and a judge at the Hamilton County fair.
