Elizabeth M. Carter, 75, Williams, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Williams with Rev. Darwin Moore to officiate. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery, Williams. Visitation will be at the church from 4-8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Surls Funeral Home in Williams is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Steenhard, daughter of Klaas and Lebena Van Horne Steenhard, was born Aug. 20, 1925 in Sheffield. She graduated from the Sheffield High School. She married Delmar Carter on August 20, 1946 in Mason City. She and her husband farmed for several years. From 1965 to 1976 they worked for Standard Oil and formed C & C Oil Corp. in Waterloo. They retired in 1980 to split time between Iowa and Florida.

Survivors are two sons, Delmon Carter and wife Virginia, Lewis Carter and Cindy Monroe, Williams, a daughter Adele Scott and husband Jim of Blairsburg; two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jennie LaRue of Alexander, Kurna Neve of Rockwell, Wilma Schultz of Plainview, Minn. and LaVone Brager of Ventura, a brother, Fred Steenhard, Owatonna, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar, three brothers and three sisters.
