Jesse Silvey, 73, Stratford, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at his home in Stratford. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Dale Schoening and Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford. Visitation will be at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. with the family to be present from 7-8:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Jesse Silvey was born May 29, 1927 in Barron County, Kentucky, the son of Marshall B. and Etta May Moore Silvey. He was a 1944 graduate of Stratford Community School. He served with the United States Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He worked for the Stratford Co-op for 12 years and farmed in the Stratford and Dayton area for 7 years and was employed by Hamilton County for 17 years. He married Maxine YuVonne Hoshaw at Des Moines on Nov. 6, 1950. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Moose Lodge and served on the Stratford City Council.

Survivors are his wife, Maxine, Stratford; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Garlan and Julie Silvey of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rex Alan Silvey, Stanhope; two daughters and son-in-law, Teresa and John Peterson of Madrid, Toni Jo Silvey of Raleigh, NC., four grandchildren, Cole Jeffrey Silvey, Austin Jeffrey Silvey, Lauren Anthony Silvey, all of Colorado Springs, Colo., Korisa Rhean Clark and husband Benjamin, Boone; one grandchild, Azaria Jean Silvey, Fort Dodge; one brother and sister-in-law, Garnet and Betty Silvey of Stratford; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Newgard, Laurens, Edith and Weldon Sonksen, Stratford.
