Edwin Berry, 86, Stratford, died at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000. He had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center since March.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Stratford on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. with the family present from 2-4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Edwin Berry was born on March 16, 1914 in Tama, the son of Ralph and Bessie Green Berry. He was a graduate of Stanhope High School. He married SeDonna Janice Alvestad at Jewell Lutheran Church parsonage on July 3, 1934. The couple farmed until 1967 when they moved to Stratford. He worked at Percivals in Boone until his retirement.

Survivors are his four sons and daughters-in-law, Darwin and Verla Berry of Naples, Fla., Robert and Marlys Berry of Oelwein, Richard Berry of Ventura, Michael and Grace Berry of Stratford, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Claude Berry of Visalia, Calif., a sister, Marijean Allen, Stanhope, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice in May 1988, a son, Ronald in Sept. of 1984, and three brothers.
