Albert Dean Larson, 94, of Rolling Green Village, Nevada, went home to be with his Lord on September 29, 2022. Funeral services will be Friday, October 7th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Jewell. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church.

The 11th of 12 children in the family of Elmer and Leila (Miller) Larson, Dean was born on March 9th, 1928, in Woolstock, Iowa. They moved from Woolstock to rural Stanhope when he was three. He was a member of Stanhope Christian Church, until his marriage in 1948 and then transferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Jewell. He served faithfully as president, deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher at St. Paul’s through the years. He was a Christian example both at church and at home.

Dean graduated from Stanhope High School in 1946, where he excelled in sports and music. He then served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne and achieved the rank of Corporal. He served as Company Clerk and paratrooper until 1948. After his discharge, Dean returned to Stanhope and married the love of his life, Shirley Enderson. They enjoyed almost 74 years of marriage with Christ as the head of their home. Dean and Shirley were blessed with two daughters and two sons, and the family resided on farms in rural Stanhope and Jewell. In the early 1960’s, Dean purchased a seamless gutter machine – one of the very first in the Midwest – and established Larson Gutter Service. He combined that with his farming operation and retired from the gutter business in 1992. Dean retired from farming in 1994.

Dean was an active member of the Stanhope Lions Club since 1975. He served as president, zone chairman, secretary and Santa Claus. He sold hundreds of raffle tickets at Watermelon Day through the years. He was honored with the Warren Coleman Honorary Award for his years of dedicated service.

Dean and Shirley always enjoyed fishing, camping and boating and often included their grandchildren. After retirement, Dean and Shirley traveled to Hawaii several times and were snowbirds in Arizona for 12 years.

When they were 80 years old, Dean and Shirley moved off the farm to their condo in Story City. In the spring of 2022, they moved together to Rolling Green Village in Nevada, where Dean passed away.

Dean is survived by daughters, Sonjia (Jim) Michaelson of Eldora, Deb (Darrell) Anderson of Gilbert and sons, Michael (Sheila) of Stanhope and Doug (Lori) of Okauchee, Wisconsin. He leaves grandchildren Heather (Rick) McKinley, Greg (Tammy) Michaelson, Holly (Dave) Standke, Derek (Christine) Anderson, Dean Larson, Katelynn Larson, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents and 11 siblings.
