Stephen Orville Anderson, 72, of Stratford, Iowa, passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, on August 5, 2022. Steve was born on September 3, 1949, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Orville and Elizabeth (Elgar) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Stratford High School in 1967.

In November 1968, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, actively serving for four years. After completing his service honorably, he operated the family farm near Stratford, Iowa, and also managed a crop insurance business. Steve was a member of the Stratford Fire Department and Stratford American Legion. He faithfully served at the Stratford Lutheran Church and volunteered at the local grocery store. He enjoyed countless trips to Minnesota and Canada for fishing adventures, attended Iowa Wild hockey games with friends, and enjoyed many conversations around the backyard fire with friends.

Steve’s pride and joy were his two sons, Derek John and Joshua James. He loved to attend their sporting events when they were young. As they grew older, he enjoyed trips to visit them out of state, listening to music, and assisting with home improvement projects. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. He also enjoyed the small moments with them, whether it was rocking the fussy baby to sleep or teaching a new trick in chess. The grandkids were always entertained by his seemingly never-ending supply of fruit snacks.

He is survived by his sons, Derek (Rebekah) Stickfort and Josh (Jordyn) Anderson; grandchildren: Everett Stickfort, Annabelle Stickfort, Caroline Stickfort, Lennox Anderson, and Gemma Anderson; sisters: Elaine (Chuck) Lore, Muriel (Jay) Steffen, Janice (Jim) Coon, and Norma (Jeff) Jones; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Elizabeth Anderson.

Burial with Military Honors provided by the Boone Veterans Council took place at South Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations are suggested to the family for them to use at their discretion.
