Phyllis Boughton, 95, of Webster City, died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Israel Hospice House in Ames, surrounded by her family.

Phyllis Yvonne Boughton, daughter of Merle and Edna Clark was born on April 20, 1927 in Webster City. She was united in marriage to Sterling Frances Furman in 1946. After Sterling died in June 1981, Phyllis married Merlin (Red) Boughton on November 27, 1982.

Phyllis graduated from Webster City High School and then was a Cadet in the nursing corps in Iowa City. She worked at Hamilton County Hospital, Farm Bureau for many years and then worked as the Northeast Hamilton School secretary. She loved to travel, spent winters in Mesa, AZ, then in Boca Raton the last few years. She excelled in painting everything from portraits to landscapes and received numerous blue ribbons at the Hamilton County Fair, as well as other venues where she entered her work. She loved to play any kind of cards and taught herself to play bridge at the age of 92. Above all else, Phyllis loved going to the casinos where she always won; sometimes a little, sometimes a lot but, according to her, she never lost.

Phyllis is survived by her children whom she loved dearly: Larry (Barbara) Furman of Blairsburg, Joan (her favorite son-in-law, Richard) Stark of Boca Raton, FL, Christopher (Janine Gilbert) Furman of Arnolds Park and stepson John (Martha) Boughton of Webster City. Seventeen grandchildren which includes Larry’s children: Bridget (Bill) Kearney of Sheldahl, Bryan (Kelly) Furman of Cedar Rapids, Erin (Dr. Christian) York of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica (Brian) Knoll of Story City; Joan’s children: Kristen (Phil) Gose of Urbandale, Natalie (Robert) Stark-Fouarge of Webster City, Jennifer (Jason) Mortimer of Ames, Stephanie Stark of Urbandale, Mary (Mike) Cowan of Ames; Chris’ children: Heather Chada of Algona, Jade (Katie) Furman of Milford, Jasmine Furman of Pomeroy, Jordan Furman of Spencer, Jonathan (Tiffany) Furman of Milford; and John’s children: Rachel Boughton of Minneapolis, MN, Ben Boughton, and Sam Boughton, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by husbands, Sterling Furman and Merlin Boughton; sister, Beverly Doyle and brother, Robert Clark.

No services will be held. A private celebration of life will be held with the family. Donations can be made to Hamilton County Hospital, Hamilton County Fair, Mary Greeley Hospital, or Israel Hospice House in Ames in Phyllis’ name.
