Dan R. Tague, 75, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away April 12, 2022 at his daughter’s home in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his beloved family and best friend, Galen Mehl. “This isn’t goodbye, I’ll see you later.”

Danny Ray Tague, son of Joseph and Charlotte (Nelson) Tague was born on August 14, 1946 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He received his education in Fort Dodge, Iowa where he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School with the class of 1965. On August 9, 1965, Dan entered the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on May 8, 1968. At that time, Dan transferred to the Iowa Army National Guard where he served for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement, Dan also served as Director of Hamilton County Veterans Affairs.

Dan married his soul mate, Diane Mehl on September 12, 1969 at First Covenant Church in Fort Dodge. To this union, five children were born, Mike, Daniel, Libbie, Hollie and Heather.

Throughout the years, the couple raised their family in Fort Dodge, Kellogg, Baxter, and Webster City. Dan took great pride in his acreage outside of Webster City where he had a very large garden in which he and Diane kept the kids and grandkids stocked up on fresh vegetables.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, morel mushroom and Asparagus hunting and was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all spending time with his family is what he treasured most. Dan never met a stranger and could create conversation with anyone.

In addition to his parents, Dan was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Tague; and his grandson, Jacob Johnson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Diane Tague of Webster City; two sons, Mike Tague of Elk River, MN, and Dan (Anna) Tague of Webster City; three daughters, Libbie Tague of Des Moines, Hollie (Christian) Tague-Robsahm of Oakland, CA, Heather Tague of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; brother, Mark (Janice) Tague of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Janet Tague of Barnum; many nieces nephews and cousins, and his loving little dog, Fern.
