Frank W. Smalley, 64, lifelong Webster City area resident, died last evening at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for four weeks. He had been in ill health since October, 1984.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Raymond M. Roden officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Flagfolding service will be held at graveside by the American Legion Post 191.

Friends may call at Foster's after 6 o'clock tonight.

Frank Wiltsey Smalley, son of John and Elsie Soop Smalley, was born Jan. 2, 1920 at Woolstock. He was educated in the schools at Woolstock where he graduated in 1938.

He was married Aug. 6, 1969 to Leatrice Allen at Mobile, Ala. The couple had since resided in Webster City.

In April, 1940 he joined the Iowa National Guard and entered the service in 1941 with Co. E, 133rd Infantry Battalion at Camp Claiborne, La. He served in the European and African Theatres of action in World War II. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was discharged in 1945.

For several years, he was employed at Beam Industries, and was widely known as an auto salesman in Webster City where he was employed by Ford and Chevrolet dealerships until 1980.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, one step-son and one step-daughter: Mrs. Eugene (Terri) Miller of Glenwood, Iowa, Dennis Allen, Des Moines, and Mrs. Steven (Carol) Thelke of Alden; two grandsons and two grandaughters, Corey and Scott Thelke, Kelly and Kerry Miller; a half-brother, Everett (Bill) Myers, Glenwood City, Wis.; one brother, Marion Smalley, Webster City; two sisters, Beverly Baker of Webster City and Mrs. Donald (Audrey) Thelke of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion Post 191. He was a past officer of the Co. E, 133rd Infantry Association, World War II.
