Viola Chalfant, 85, Webster City, died Monday, June 10, 2002 at Crestview Manor. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and at the church on Thursday prior to the service.

Viola Eloise Thompson, daughter of Clarence and Artie Thompson Thompson, was born Nov. 5, 1916 on a farm near Stonega. She attended the Thompson rural school near Stonega and the Missouri Bend rural school near Homer. The family moved to Webster City where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. On April 26, 1941 she married Roy Leslie Chalfant at the United Brethren Church in Webster City. The couple farmed northwest of Webster City and moved to Webster City in 1971. She moved to Crestview in 1997. Mr. Chalfant died Feb. 7, 2001.

Mrs. Chalfant is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Chalfant of Webster City, daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Robert Moulton, Hartford, Elaine and Frank Messerly, Fort Dodge; Bethene and Wes Nelson of Marion, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Stanhope, Wanda Jeys, LeMars, sisters-in-law, Gladys Thompson, Minnetonka, Minn., Carla Thompson of Urbandale; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sam and Melvin Thompson, sisters, Ina Tiffany; Lois and Evelyn Thompson.

She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Womens Society, Charity Circle, formerly involved with PTA events and a parent leader in 4-H.
