Loren Dean Hoelscher, 74, of Williams, passed away on March 17, 2022 at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Indiana following a car/pedestrian accident. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. on March 24 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williams. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williams with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams.

Loren was born on September 5, 1947 in Iowa Falls to Loren Kenneth and Fern Hoelscher. Loren attended school in Iowa Falls until his family moved to a farm north of Williams during his junior year. Loren graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School in 1965. He attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and received his Associate of Arts degree in June of 1967. Loren attended JFK College in Wahoo, Nebraska for a year and then transferred to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he graduated in 1969 with a B.A. Degree. Following graduation, Loren was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Seattle, Washington following boot camp.

In 1972, Loren married Virginia Ailes in Red Cloud, Nebraska. At various times they lived and worked in Anamosa, IA (bowling alley), Oelwein, IA (Hoelscher-Stockdale Ag), Lincoln, NE (bowling alley), and finally settled in Williams, IA where they have lived since 1985. Loren worked for Hoelscher Ag where he sold and erected grain bins. Loren was currently working for his brothers doing part-time sales and seasonal farm work.

Throughout his life, Loren loved bowling and attending National Bowling Tournaments; slow-pitch softball; his annual 4th of July barbeque in our yard; family get-togethers; cheering for the Hawkeyes, and talking politics. Loren was a member of the Williams United Methodist Church and the Williams American Legion Post 633.

Loren is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia; sons Loren Curtis “Curt” (Corie) and their sons Casey and Henry; Scott Ashton; and Jeffrey Dean (Lindsey), daughter Madilynn and stepsons Jaxson, Brayton and Kayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Douglas.
