Jon M. Young, 81, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Grandview Care Center in Dayton, Iowa.

A service of celebration and honor will be held at Stanhope Parish in Stanhope, Iowa on Saturday, March 26th with a visitation at 9:30 to 11:00 and the service at 11:00.

Jon Michael Young was born on February 21, 1941 right behind twin sister Judy, to Oscar and Mabel (Lundy) Young in Webster City, Iowa. Always considering himself to be a Stanhope native, Jon and his family started out on a farm northwest of Stanhope.

Jon attended Stanhope School and graduated in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted with the Navy and became a Seabee, serving honorably from 1959 – 1961 in Okinawa, Guam, and Japan.

Jon married Peggy Ochs in Denver, Colorado on February 29, 1964. To this union, three children were born. Kathy, Keith, and Syrina. The family settled on a farm southeast of Stanhope where Jon raised hogs and grew corn, soybeans, and hay.

Jon worked hard to provide for his family, but also understood that there is a lot of merit that goes into a good laugh. He was quick with a joke and knew how to have fun. Some of this fun included: dancing with his beloved Peggy, bowling league, men’s softball, fishing, hunting, and drinking coffee with his fellow farmers and neighbors.

Jon was involved in his community, serving on several church boards at Stanhope Methodist Church and Stanhope Parish, South Hamilton school board, Stanhope Lion’s Club, and was a member of Hamilton County Pheasants Forever.

In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy (Ochs) Young.

Survivors include his children Kay. Christie of Dayton, Keith (Patricia) Young of Council Bluffs, Syrina (Robert) Moussetis of Aurora IL., 4 grandchildren, Amanda Christie of Dayton, Melina Moussetis of Chicago, Kiki Moussetis of Chicago, and Nicole Young of Council Bluffs, one great grandson, Jayden Christie of Dayton, his brother Richard Young of Parkersburg and his sister Judy (Larry) Cramer of Johnston. Sister in law, Kay (Jim) Burr of Tujunga, CA, and brother in law, Ed (Jan) Ochs of Simi Valley, CA.
