William (Willy) Carstens, 88, of Webster City, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fosters Chapel, with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

William August Carstens, son of William and Gertrude Duden Carstens, was born July 26, 1916 at Williams. He received his education at the Williams Public School, graduating in 1934. He started farming with his father. On June 3, 1941 he married Irene Viola Miller at Princeton, MO. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps - Engineers. Following his discharge, he worked at John Deere at Waterloo for one year. He then returned to farming at Blairsburg for 23 years. While still farming, he also worked at Luppes Propane, then Buckeye Gas as a driver and salesman for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, sisters Dorothy Kay of Lubbock, TX; Evelyn Bever of Webster City; LaVonne Griffin of Fort Worth, TX; brothers Harold Carstens of Alta, Donald Carstens of Battle Creek, MI; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Agnes Nerland and brother Herman Carstens.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational of Blairsburg, American Legion Post #191, Webster City Moose Family Center and enjoyed dancing and meeting new friends.
